Anita Kambo, community and place-based researcher, NICE people and communities network
Anita works as a community and place-based research associate of Dartington Service Design Lab, Race On The Agenda, and the Ada Lovelace Institute. She supports underrepresented and seldom-heard people, communities and places experiencing the greatest inequalities to lead on the issues that matter to them, on their own terms – ensuring their expertise and voices are heard and fairly represented within research, policy, practice and ultimately the decisions that impact their lives.
Drawing on her experience in frontline mental health practice and academic research, alongside her lived history of perinatal healthcare inequalities, Anita applies holistic and evidence-based approaches to tackle the root causes of structural inequalities and discrimination. She specialises in using trauma-informed, decolonial and creative research practices – most recently leading research on the perinatal mental health experiences of South Asian mothers.
As well as at NICE, Anita also holds committee, advisory and leadership roles across the NHS Race and Health Observatory, UKRI Population Mental Health Consortium, Royal College of Psychiatrists, and King’s College London.
