Dr Rebecca McPhillips, senior public engagement analyst – NICE Listens, NICE
Dr Rebecca McPhillips leads NICE Listens, NICE’s deliberative public engagement programme, which provides insight into public perspectives on moral, ethical and social value issues relevant to NICE guidance. Using public dialogue methods, Rebecca recently led a NICE Listens project exploring public views on severity weighting, and is currently leading a project examining public perspectives on the use of artificial intelligence in the development and provision of health and social care guidance.
Rebecca is also a member of the leadership and management group of the NICE Staff Champions Network, which works to embed the meaningful involvement of people and communities across NICE. In addition, she serves as co-chair of Women in NICE (WIN), an initiative that supports women’s personal and professional development and advocates for actions to reduce gender inequalities within the organisation.
Before joining NICE, Rebecca worked at the University of Manchester, where she developed over ten years of experience in mental health and social care research. She served as a principal investigator and co-Investigator on several National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) funded projects. Her work focused on the experiences of people excluded from statutory services during mental health crises, as well as the challenges surrounding complex mental health needs and physical healthcare within primary care settings.
Throughout her career, Rebecca has worked closely with patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE) groups and representatives. She is committed to strengthening the quality, relevance, accountability and transparency of research through meaningful PPIE activities, and continues to champion this approach in her work at NICE and through the NICE Staff Champions Network.
