Sarah Fishburn, NICE guideline committee chair
Sarah is interested in all aspects of healthcare and has developed an expertise and understanding of how people experience health care. This has led her to focus on supported decision-making, communication and informed choice as she believes that these are key to improving standards and quality of care.
Sarah has had a portfolio career, and chairs the women and reproductive health suite of NICE guideline updates, with a fabulous committee of highly experienced clinicians and lay members. She enjoys reviewing the research and health economic evidence with the committee to reach workable and person-centred recommendations for care.
She has worked as a lay reviewer of maternity services for several organisations, and is currently a lay external visitor panel member with the General Optical Council. She has a particular interest in improving the quality of people’s experience of using health and care services.
Sarah has chaired the Pelvic Partnership charity since 2002. She is passionate about improving support and care for women with pelvic girdle pain and loves working with the amazing team at the Pelvic Partnership, sharing their skills and experiences in helping others. In her day job Sarah works as a senior clinical quality improvement manager in the NHS England south-east regional team.
