Dr Amrita Jesurasa, national lead for prevention in clinical settings, Public Health Wales
Amrita commenced the role of national lead for prevention in clinical settings for Public Health Wales in April 2020. She leads a diverse portfolio, which includes disease prevention programmes in relation to type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease; life-course programmes on health and wellbeing after pregnancy, and musculoskeletal health; as well as cross-cutting programmes on social prescribing, Making Every Contact Count, and a ‘Prevention-Based Health and Care Framework’.
Amrita qualified as a doctor from Imperial College London in 2005, initially specialising in paediatric medicine, before training to become a public health consultant. Prior to joining Public Health Wales, Amrita worked in a wide range of organisations, at both local and national levels, including the NHS, local government, academia, and Public Health England. Amrita commenced a NICE Fellowship in 2022, which focused on ways to implement NICE guidelines related to prevention. Having completed Harvard Business School’s Value-Based Healthcare Intensive Seminar in 2023, Amrita is also interested in value-based approaches to embedding prevention in the health and care system.
